Chris Lytle’s Retirement

On Sunday August 14, 2011; Chris Lytle had his last fight in the UFC against a very tough welterweight competitor, Dan Hardy. Dan Hardy is from England and is known for being a very hard opponent who has faced some of the top contenders including the Champ George St Pierre. Although Dan Hardy has lost his last 3 fights, he has held titles in the UK. He was also on the Ultimate Fighter 9 U.S. vs. U.K.

Chris Lytle announced on Saturday that he would be retiring after his fight with Dan Hardy. Lytle had demonstrated his thoughts on the fight and how he wanted to spend more time with his family. Chris Lytle came into the fight with a record of 31-18-5, with many of his fights being against top named fighters such as Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, and Josh Koscheck. Lytle went into the fight knowing that he would not step foot in the ring ever again.

As the first bell rings, Lytle began doing what he knew he had to do and that was to punish Dan Hardy. He began with big punches & kicks and kept bringing it the whole fight. With about 45 seconds left in the 3rd round, he choked out Dan Hardy nearly putting him to sleep. Lytle proved how much heart he has and how hard he has worked to get where he is today. But the best part came after the fight when he told Joe Rogan that he is not going to fight in the UFC, so he can spend time with his family. He had his kids in the ring with him and stated that they are the most important thing in his life. It takes a mature man to give up his passion of MMA to spend time with his children. Congratulations to Chris Lytle and his excellent career with the UFC and in MMA!
